When we talk about carbon footprinting, the concepts of calculation, validation and verification are concepts related to the different steps to be followed in the process of assessing and ensuring the accuracy of carbon footprint information. So what is the difference between these concepts?

A carbon footprint is defined as ‘the total greenhouse gases emitted by the direct or indirect effect of an individual, organisation, event or product’.

In an increasingly environmentally conscious world, companies and organisations are looking for ways to reduce their environmental impact. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a fundamental tool for this purpose, as it allows the environmental impacts associated with a product, process or activity to be assessed throughout its entire life cycle.

In the BOE of 6 November, and with effect from 7 November 2024, Royal Decree Law 6/2024 has been approved, introducing a package of urgent measures to mitigate the effects of the DANA which, between 28 October and 4 November 2024, caused significant damage in several regions of Spain, including the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Aragon.

CBAM, or Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, is an initiative that applies tariffs to imports based on the carbon emissions associated with the products. This mechanism seeks to prevent carbon leakage by ensuring that imported goods meet the same environmental standards as locally produced goods. 

On February 18, 2026, Royal Decree 126/2026 was published in the Official State Gazette, setting the new Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) for 2026 and expressly regulating the compensation and absorption regime on an annual basis.

The regulation establishes a minimum wage of €1,221 gross per month in 14 payments, with retroactive effect from January 1, and requires companies to review payrolls and salary structures in accordance with legal criteria.
