This week we had the opportunity to welcome a delegation from the Cheongju City Council (South Korea) to our facilities. Their stay in the region is part of an official trip to discover cutting-edge initiatives in sustainability, and they wanted to see first-hand the model we promote at Grup Carles for the treatment of livestock manure.

Grup Carles, as a company committed to sustainability, is registered in the Carbon Footprint, Compensation, and CO2 Absorption Projects Registry of the Ministeri per a la Transició Ecològica i el Repte Demogràfic. We are proud to announce that in January, we obtained the Carbon Footprint Calculation Seal. This is a first step towards continuing our sustainability strategy through the implementation of actions to mitigate climate change.

As the European Union (EU) steps up its climate efforts, concerns are rising about carbon leakage, a phenomenon whereby companies move carbon-intensive production outside the EU to avoid strict climate policies. In response, the EU has implemented the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), a tool designed to put a fair price on carbon and encourage cleaner practices globally.

CBAM, or Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, is an initiative that applies tariffs to imports based on the carbon emissions associated with the products. This mechanism seeks to prevent carbon leakage by ensuring that imported goods meet the same environmental standards as locally produced goods.
