Corporate delinquency in Spain: key data and trends

During 2025, corporate delinquency in Spain remained at similar levels to the previous year. According to the study on credit risk management in Spain carried out by Crédito y Caución and Iberinform, between 22% and 26% of companies have recorded significant defaults.

In other words, approximately one in four companies has experienced collection problems.

We are not talking about a sudden spike, but neither is this an anecdotal situation. Delinquency remains a structural reality that many companies must learn to live with.

Companies have remained confident despite defaults

Despite defaults, in 2025, nearly 57% of companies ended the year with growth in turnover, and many also anticipate improvements in results for 2026.

Even so, 77% have detected some deterioration in the solvency or liquidity of their customers.

Non-payments have continued to be a cross-cutting challenge, but most companies already had mechanisms and experience in place to manage them.

Factors explaining payment delays

The main factors include:

  • The increase in labor costs (39%), the main factor affecting solvency.
  • Fluctuations in demand (36%), especially in sectors with greater volatility.

Some sectors, such as construction, transportation, logistics, and agri-food, have experienced occasional tensions in payment terms.

Overall, 2025 has seen a pattern of current but contained delinquency, with companies increasingly prepared to anticipate and manage the risks associated with non-payment.
